RIVERS CASINO PORTSMOUTH JOINS ANNUAL CITY-WIDE CLEANUP ON MARCH 18

Team Members from Rivers Casino are rolling up their sleeves and helping tidy up surrounding neighborhoods on March 18.

As part of the Rivers Gives community outreach program, volunteers from the casino will join forces with the Wilson Ward/Gosport Civic League and other neighborhood and community groups for this annual community clean up.

“We are pleased to have Rivers Casino Portsmouth volunteer with us as we strive to better our city,” said Elvira H.J. Williams, President, Wilson Ward / Gosport Civic League. “To see that there are so many people who want to be a part of this initiative only shows how united we are as a community, and we encourage others to get involved.”

A group of approximately 200 local volunteers including casino employees and Rivers’ General Manager Roy Corby, will pick up litter and debris from the Victory Crossing Entertainment District to the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

“At Rivers Casino Portsmouth, we believe that a strong and vibrant community benefits us all, and we are committed to supporting efforts that ensure a cleaner Portsmouth and enhance the quality of life for our neighbors,” said Roy Corby, general manager, Rivers Casino Portsmouth.

Following the cleanup service project, Rivers Casino will provide lunch for all the volunteers at The Event Center.

In addition to the Wilson Ward/Gosport Civic League and Rivers Casino, several other organizations are a vital part of this effort, including civic groups from Cavalier Manor, Brighton/Prentis Park, Historic Truxtun, and Green Lakes; as well as the City of Portsmouth, Portsmouth Police Department, Portsmouth Sheriff’s Department, Office of the Commissioner of Revenue, the U.S. Coast Guard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Men of Zion, Afro Dogs and Thunder and Lighting Motorcycle clubs, the United Grand Lodge of Virginia and Pilgrim Lodge 1651, Olympian Sports Club, Stallings Lawn Care, and The LYF Foundation.

Rivers Casino Portsmouth prioritizes volunteerism as one of the key pillars of Rivers Gives. Through this unique corporate giving program, casino Team Members can report to a local nonprofit for work instead of to the gaming floor. Rivers Casino Team Members donate approximately 2,000 volunteer hours annually in each of their host cities.

Since January, Rivers Casino Portsmouth has supported several organizations and initiatives in the community through corporate giving and donation drives. Beneficiaries include but are not limited to the Wesley Community Service Center, The U.S.O. of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, the Urban League of Hampton Roads, UNCF, and Bloom, a coworking space that supports minority-owned and small businesses.
